‘Minhwa’ Class 민화 특강 ‘연꽃’

Korean traditional folk painting, Minhwa special class took place on Chuseok day (Korean Traditional Thanksgiving Day) October 1 and October 8. Total of 10 people attended Minhwa “Lotus flower” class that was held by KCCoC art instructor and museum director, Sujin Lee. KCCoC reopened its museum doors in time for the Korean Traditional holiday, ‘Chuseok’. The museum worked diligently for months to preserve all of the donated artifacts within the last 10 years to provide a successful exhibition for the Korean community as well as mainstream American culture. The newly refurbished main museum was transformed to ‘Our Joseon Collection’ with all the artifacts from the late Joseon dynasty. A Chicago Korean Immigration timeline has been added to the wall of the museum entrance. And a special exhibition of ‘One Fine K-Day: Ahssi’ (Joseon maiden) is on display. ‘Minhwa’ Exhibition 한국의 미, 민화 특별전

Sep. 26, Sat. – Nov. 4, Wed., 2020 추석 행사 시리즈로 문화회관 갤러리에서는 ‘한국의 미, 민화 특별전’ (9월 26일, 토~11월 4일, 수)이 열렸는데, 문화회관에서 수업하시는 이수진 선생님 문하생들의 작품들을 모은 전시회다. 문화회관이 가진 큰 계획 중의 하나가 민화의 아름다움을 알리는 것이니만큼, 이번 전시를 기점으로 민화 클래스도 열어서 활성화 시킬 예정이다. 추석날인 10월 1일 (목)과 그 다음주 8일 (목) 2회에 걸쳐 민화특강을 열어서 한국 전통 민화기법을 배워보는 시간을 갖었다.

The National Museum of Korea launched the ‘Studio M:On’ on September 21, 2020, to provide interactive online learning programs in real-time. For their first program, the “Explore Cultural Heritage with Overseas Koreans” was aired. This was a collaborative work with the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago and Korean Cultural Centre Australia. Youth Volunteer Program ‘Junior Ambassador’

KCCoC launched a youth volunteer program, ‘Junior Ambassador’. Currently there are 6 junior ambassadors, 3 high school students, (Jihye Kim, Joanne Do and Jieun Chung) and 3 middle school students, (Erica Yoo, Claire Oh and Iris Lee). ‘Hope for the Flowers’ Exhibition

A special exhibition ‘Hope for the Flowers’ organized by The Korean Cultural Center of Chicago opened its door to the public with an Opening Reception on Saturday, July 18th, 2020 in the Cultural Center’s Gallery Hall. This exhibition was inspired by the book ‘Hope for the Flowers’ written by Trina Paulus. Using this story as an inspiration, KCCoC collected various types of work created during the ‘Stay at Home’ order due to the global pandemic to share stories and experiences of coping during this challenging time as a form of healing and hope.
