KCCoC Mission and Goals

Mission Statement

The mission of the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago (KCCoC) is to promote and organize Korean cultural, arts, educational, and social activities. KCCoC aims to establish a venue where all Korean Americans and other groups can participate in programs and events that celebrate Korean culture and heritage. KCCoC strongly encourages cross-cultural understanding that can embrace and empower all people to coexist peacefully.

Goals

The Korean Cultural Center of Chicago is a not-for-profit organization with these purposes:

1. to discover, preserve, and develop Korean immigrants’ history and Korean cultural legacies in the United States,
2. to enhance the understanding of Korean culture’s uniqueness by propagating Korean culture to Korean descendants and other peoples,
3. to serve as the center for cooperation among all Korean-Americans and their organizations,
4. to support cultural exchange and networking between Korea and the United States and conduct and facilitate any other cultural and peaceful activities.

The Need for KCCoC

• KCCOC must build a bridge between the Korean and Korean-American communities through various cultural exchanges
• In this modern era where the concept of ethnicity is shifting from that of blood to culture, KCCOC must preserve and promote Korean cultural identity
• KCCOC will provide a physical place to develop cultural identity for young Korean Americans by holding various seminars and meetings with Korean-American role models and leaders. It will be a place for professionals to network and exchange their ideas.
• KCCOC will assist young Korean-American professionals become more marketable by helping them cultivate their bilingual and bicultural abilities. In this global age, Korean cultural education is essential for young Korean-Americans who want to herald their bilingual abilities and bicultural identities.
• KCCOC will assist younger generation Korean-Americans in overcoming their cultural and generational gap with their Korean parents.

KCCoC’s Functions

• Preserve and exhibit the history of Korean immigrants
• Educate and share Korean heritage and groom Korean cultural leaders
• Provide Korean cultural events and lectures
• Hold academic forums and meetings to promote Korean-American leadership, culture, and identity
• Provide a place of networking for Korean companies
• Introduce and share Korean culture to mainstream society
• Provide space for Korean and Korean-American organizations to hold events and programs
• Provide internship opportunities in Chicago to young adults and students in Korea
• Find ways to help 1.5 and 2nd generation Korean-Americans, as well as youth from other backgrounds, experience Korea
