The National Museum of Korea launched the ‘Studio M:On’ on September 21, 2020, to provide interactive online learning programs in real-time. For their first program, the “Explore Cultural Heritage with Overseas Koreans” was aired. This was a collaborative work with the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago and Korean Cultural Centre Australia. Youth Volunteer Program ‘Junior Ambassador’

KCCoC launched a youth volunteer program, ‘Junior Ambassador’. Currently there are 6 junior ambassadors, 3 high school students, (Jihye Kim, Joanne Do and Jieun Chung) and 3 middle school students, (Erica Yoo, Claire Oh and Iris Lee). A special exhibition ‘Hope for the Flowers’ organized by The Korean Cultural Center of Chicago opened its door to the public with an Opening Reception on Saturday, July 18th, 2020 in the Cultural Center’s Gallery Hall. This exhibition was inspired by the book ‘Hope for the Flowers’ written by Trina Paulus. Using this story as an inspiration, KCCoC collected various types of work created during the ‘Stay at Home’ order due to the global pandemic to share stories and experiences of coping during this challenging time as a form of healing and hope. KCCoC Opened!

The Korean Cultural Center of Chicago reopened on June 15th with strict guidelines. Ahead of reopening, the KCCoC was hard at work with deep cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting each and every section of all of the 4 buildings. Acrylic protective screens and social distancing stickers have been put in place in and around the Cultural Center. Classes at the KCCoC is also working towards reopening with guidelines that suits each class. With questions on specific class and schedules, please contact the class instructor. Korean Traditional Hats Exhibition 조선의 멋, 모자 특별전

Jan. 18 Sat. – Mar. 3 Tue., 2020 ‘2020 설’ 행사와 연계하여 ‘한국의 멋, 모자특별전’이 문화회관 박물관과 갤러리 특별기획으로 2개월간 열렸다. 2020년 1월 18일에 열린 오프닝 리셉션엔 악천후에도 불구하고 80명 이상의 귀빈과 관람객들이 ‘모자착용’ 드레스 코드에 맞춰 각양각색의 모자를 쓰고 참석하였다. 시카고 한국 무용단 학생들의 작은 공연을 시작으로 한복 디자이너 강금희씨의 ‘갓의 역사’에 대한 강의를 듣고 다양한 모자들을 써보는 체험의 시간도 갖었다. 전시회는 유례없는 호응으로 1 월 30일에서 3월 3일로 연장되었고, 설행사등 여러 문화회관 행사와 견학등을 통해 500여명 이상의 관람객들에게 다양한 한국 전통 모자들의 역사와 멋을 만나게 하였다.
