Sep.14, 2024 The Korean Cultural Center of Chicago (KCCoC) BISCO Hall held a successful grand opening ceremony on September 14th with 350 people in attendance. Leaders of various organizations attended the event. The Korean American Association President, the Consul General, Congressman, President of Wheeling, and various dignitaries were among many in attendance, and plaques of appreciation were presented to Min Sook and Byoung In Suh, Chairman of the BISCO Foundation, and Yoon Tae Kim, President of the KCCoC. Sep. 6 부산정과 협문 준공식 문화원 부산정 난간과 협문 설치 프로젝트가 부산시 관계자들이 참석한 가운데 준공식을 가졌다. The Korean Cultural Center of Chicago’s Busan Jung and Hyeob Mun project held its completion ceremony with the Busan city officials in attendance.

Sep. 4-18 KCCoC Gallery presented the invitational exhibition ‘Navigating Duality: Symbolism and Identity in Korean American Art”. This exhibition featured the work of Korean American artists in Chicago who explore the complexities of dual cultural identities. Through symbolic representations-ranging from traditional Korean motifs to contemporary reinterpretations and American cultural icons-these artists conveyed personal narratives of heritage, identity, alienation, and belonging.   문화원 초대전으로 열린 이번 전시는 시카고 지역에서 활동하는 한국계 미국인 예술가들의 작품전으로 이중 문화 정체성을 탐구한 작품들로 구성되었다.  

해금과 가야금의 만남 문화회관 목요음악회 시리즈 ‘모짜르트 인더 모닝’ 8월 콘서트는 ‘해금과 가야금의 만남’으로 해금 이승희, 가야금 김현채, 타악 김덕환 연주가들의 멋진 무대가 펼쳐졌다. 한국의 대표적인 현악기인 해금과 가야금을 연주로 전통음악에서 현대음악까지 다양한 음악을 들을 수 있었다. 두 개의 명주 사이에 나무활을 끼고 연주하는 해금은 사람의 목소리를 닮아 떄론, 삶과 슬픔을 전달한다고 하며, 손가락으로 튕기는 12줄의 가야금은 맑고 깨끗한 소리로 마음을 달래준다. 관객들은 과거 양반에서 평민에 이르기까지 누구나 즐겨듣던 ‘아리랑’의 독특한 스타일을 경험했다.
