Korean Cultural Center of Chicago and Chicago Korean Education Center hosted the first Gimjang, the annual kimchi making, event. Traditionally, kimchi is made once a year in the winter, enough to last year until the next winter. In Korea, this is a tradition and a big event where all the neighborhood women get together and make kimchi and share. It takes two days to make kimchi as Napa cabbage must be pickled the day before.
In preparation, 14 boxes of Napa cabbage and all the ingredients were purchased in advance. Prep team pickled the cabbage to be ready for the event the next day. About 20 people attended, which made this event a success.
