The 2025 Lunar New Year event hosted by the Korean American Cultural Center of Chicago was held successfully last Saturday at the Cultural Center’s BISCO Hall. The event began with the lively Soribit’s “Sangmo Pangut” performance, followed by the Chicago Korean Dance Company’s performances of “Seollal Morning” and “Gyeonggo”. After welcoming remarks by Vice Chair Kim Yoon-tae and congratulatory words from Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas, the event moved into traditional Korean games that the whole family could enjoy.

Stations were set up for various traditional games, such as Ttakji, Jegi, Paengi, Gonggi, Yutnori, and Tuho, where participants could experience them firsthand. Notably, the Ttakji and Paengi stations allowed participants to create their own crafts and then play the games. It was heartwarming to see families and friends bonding while playing these traditional games. The event also saw a significant increase in non-Korean attendees, eager to experience Korean games, reflecting the growing global interest in Korean culture.

To celebrate the holiday, the Cultural Center gave participants who arrived in hanbok a handmade “Cheongdong Ribbon” as a gift and set up a hanbok experience corner. Delicious traditional foods were another highlight of the event, with tasting stations for tteokguk (rice cake soup), sikye (sweet rice drink), sujeonggwa (cinnamon punch), and yakgwa (traditional Korean sweets). The Dalgona (honeycomb toffee) making station was especially popular.

The event concluded with all participants holding hands and playing the “Doongeulge, Doongeulge” game, which received the greatest response and attention, especially as it introduced a new Korean game to the second-generation Koreans and non-Koreans in attendance. The event was sponsored by the Chicago Korean Education Center and supported by the Chicago Korean School, 초Chicago Mom’s Art Studio, Pureunae Art, and the Cultural Center Junior Ambassadors, who operated the game stations.

2025  설 행사 성황리 개최

 

시카고한인문화원 주관 2025년 설행사가 지난 토요일 문화원 비스코홀에서 성황리에 열렸다. 이번 행사는 소리빛의 상모판굿 공연으로 시작하고, 시카고 한국무용단의 공연으로 이어졌다. 김윤태 부이사장의 환영사와 쿡타운티 트레저 마리아 파파스의 축사에 이어 온 가족이 즐길수 있는 한국 전통놀이들을 체험이 시작되었다.

 

딱지, 제기, 팽이, 공기, 윷놀이, 투호 등 각각의 스테이션이 마련되어 각자 체험할 수 있도록 구성되었는데 특히, 딱지와 팽이는 크래프트를 겸해 직접 만들어서 게임을 하도록 하였다. 특히나 지금 전세계적으로 관심이 높아진 한국놀이 문화를 체험하고자 행사장을 찾은 비한인들이 크게 늘었다. 이날 문화원에서는 설을 맞아 한복을 입고 온 참가자들에게는 직접 제작한 색동리본을 선물하였으며, 한복을 체험할수 있는 코너도 마련되었다. 푸짐한 먹거리 또한, 이번 행사의 매력 포인트가 되었다. 떡국, 식혜, 수정과, 약과 등 설음식들의 시식코너가 준비되었으며, 달고나 뽑기 코너는 큰 인기를 얻었다.

 

마지막 순서는 참여자 모두가 손을 맞잡고 ‘둥글게, 둥글게’ 게임을 하였는데, 시카고에서 나고 자란 2세들은 물론, 비한인들에게 새로운 한국의 놀이를 선보인 만큼 가장 큰 호응과 관심을 얻었다. 이날 행사는 시카고한국교육원이 후원하고, 시카고한국학교, 엄마화실, 푸르내 아트, 문화원 주니어엠서버더가 게임 스테이션을 운영하였다.
