Children’s Day 100^th Year Anniversary

To celebrate the 100th year anniversary of Korean Children’s Day, Korean Cultural Center of Chicago held a K-experience event ‘Celebrate Korean Children’s Day!’ on Saturday, May 14 at the Chicago Children’s Museum in Navy Pier.

Children participated in various activities such as ddakji making, coloring traditional Korean items, learn to play jegi and yutnori, writing their names in Korean calligraphy, try-on hanbok, learn K-Pop dance, view Korean artifacts and read children’s books by Korean authors. At the ‘This is Me’ station, children had the opportunity to express what they love as well as to pin on the world map where their family came from. Those who participated visited 10 different stations and once completed, they were given goodie bags filled with Korean souvenirs to take home. Especially at the K-Pop stations, young parents were entertained by the current popular K-Pop music. And finally, at the end, ‘Baby Shark’ was a hit for everyone of all ages.

300 participants and 30 volunteers enjoyed 3 hours of fun celebrating Children’s Day. The significance was even greater as it was its 100^th year anniversary. KCCoC plans to continue with this special event annually.

 

어린이날 100주년 기념 행사

 

시카고한인문화회관이 100주년을 맞은 한국 어린이날을 기념하여 K-experience: Celebrate Korean Children’s Day! 행사를 5월 14일 토요일 다운타운 네이비 피어 소재 시카고 어린이 박물관에서 개최하였다.

 

이날 행사에 참여한 어린이들은 딱지 만들기, 한국 전통 아이템 색칠하기로 크래프트를 해보고, 제기차기와 윷놀이 놀이 방법을 배우고, 붓글씨로 영문 이름도 받아 보았으며 한복 입어보기, K-Pop Dance 배우기, 한국 전통 물품 접해 보기, 동화책 읽어보기도 해보았다. 또한 ‘This is Me’ Station에서는 나 자신이 무엇을 좋아하는 지에 대해서 알아보고 글로벌 관점에서 한국과 자신의 위치를 찾아보는 시도를 해보는 등 총 10개 스테이션을 모두 체험한 뒤 기념품을 받았다. 특히 K-Pop Dance 스테이션에서 요즘 인기있는 곡들이 흘러나올 때에는 젊은 부모들도 흥에 겨워했으며, 마지막으로는 ‘아기 상어’를 신청곡으로 받아서 모두가 함께 즐기며 행사를 마무리하였다.

 

행사 참여자 300여명과 봉사자 30여명이 함께 즐겼던 3시간은 한국 어린이날이 100주년이었기에 그 의미가 더 컸다. 문화회관은 앞으로도 매년 어린이날 행사를 이어갈 것이다.
