Special Lecture by Hong June Yoo, Director of the National Museum of Korea

As the world increasingly takes notice of the dynamic appeal of Korean culture, a meaningful opportunity to explore the deeper essence and values of Korean heritage will be held at the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago (KCCoC). On Saturday, March 7 at 10:30 AM, KCCoC will host a special lecture titled “The Roots and Identity of Korean Culture” by Dr. Yoo Hong June, Director of the National Museum of Korea and one of Korea’s most distinguished art historians.

This lecture is organized to align with the overseas traveling exhibition of the Cultural Heritage by the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee, opening at the Art Institute of Chicago. The program will provide scholarly and historical insight into the distinctive value of Korea’s classical and modern art, serving as an important opportunity to introduce the depth of Korean aesthetics to the local cultural community.

Dr. Yoo previously served as Administrator of the Cultural Heritage Administration and inspired a nationwide appreciation for Korean cultural heritage through his acclaimed book series My Cultural Heritage Tour of Korea. His lecture will share the essence of Korean aesthetics and offer a meaningful occasion for audiences of all generations to reflect on and take pride in Korea’s cultural identity.

유홍준 국립박물관 관장 특별 강연

전 세계가 한국 문화의 역동적인 매력에 주목하고 있는 지금, 한국 문화의 깊은 본질과 가치를 통찰하는 뜻깊은 시간이 시카고한인문화원 (이하 문화원)에서 열린다. 문화원은 오는 3월 7일, 토요일 오전 10시 30분에 한국 미술사학계의 석학 유홍준 국립 중앙박물관장을 초청하여「한국 문화의 뿌리와 정체성」이라는 주제로 특별 강연을 개최한다.

특히 이번 강연은 시카고 미술관에서 개막하는 고(故) 이건희 회장 기증품 국외 순회전과 궤를 같이하며 기획되었다. 이는 우리 고미술과 근현대 미술이 지닌 독창적 가치를 학문적·역사적으로 뒷받침하며, 현지 문화계에 한국 미학의 깊이를 전하는 귀중한 전기가 될 것이다. 문화재청장을 역임하고『나의 문화유산답사기』를 통해 한국 문화유산에 대한 범국민적 심미안을 일깨웠던 유홍준 관장이 직접 전하는 한국 미학의 정수는, 세대를 넘어 우리 문화에 대한 자부심과 정체성을 공유하는 소중한 시간이 될 것으로 기대한다.
