비스코 퍼포밍 아트 시리즈 선정작 “블루버드 프로젝트”

The classical ensemble Bluebird Project has been selected as a winner of the 2025 BISCO Performing Series, organized by the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago. Bluebird Project is a chamber ensemble distinguished by its unique instrumentation of violin, cello, piano, percussion, and baritone. The group brings together accomplished musicians who have been active as soloists, orchestral players, and chamber artists in their respective fields, presenting a wide-ranging repertoire that bridges tradition and modernity, as well as Eastern and Western musical traditions.

The first half of the program will feature a violin and cello duo by composer Reinhold Glière, the rhythmically vibrant and sonically powerful 13 Drums, and art songs by Giordani, Quilter, and Dong-A Shin. In the second half, audiences will hear a lyrical cello solo, followed by “May Arirang” for baritone, cello, and piano. This will be followed by Bluebird Project’s newly commissioned arrangement of Gershwin’s An American in Paris, making its Chicago premiere after a performance in New York last year. The concert will conclude with a grand finale: the final movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, reimagined for piano trio, timpani, and baritone, performed by all Bluebird Project artists. Blending timeless masterpieces with fresh contemporary interpretations, the program promises a unique and deeply moving experience for audiences.

Since their Chicago debut recital in 2024, Bluebird Project has quickly gained recognition as an emerging chamber ensemble. Following their debut at Carnegie Hall in 2025, the group is preparing to expand its presence both across the United States and internationally. Bluebird Project shares that they aim to “build a strong audience base through diverse musical experiments and innovative interpretations of classical works, and to offer performances that convey the power and comfort of music.”

클래식 앙상블 블루버드 프로젝트(Bluebird Project) 가 시카고한인문화원이 2025년 주관한 비스코 아트 공모전에 당선되어 비스코홀 무대에 오른다. 블루버드 프로젝트는 바이올린, 첼로, 피아노, 퍼커션, 바리톤이라는 독창적인 악기 구성으로 결성된 실내악 그룹이다. 각 분야에서 솔리스트로, 오케스트라와 앙상블 주자로 활발히 활동해온 연주자들이 모여 전통과 현대, 동서양의 음악을 아우르는 폭넓은 레퍼토리를 선보인다.

이번 공연에는 작곡가 글리에르의 바이올린과 첼로 듀오, 다채로운 리듬과 압도적인 음향의 13개의 드럼 솔로, Giordani와 Quilter, 신동아의 가곡이 1부 무대에 오른다. 2부에는 서정적인 첼로 솔로와 바리톤, 첼로, 피아노의 ‘메이 아리랑’이 연주되고, 뒤이어 2025년 블루버드 프로젝트가 위촉하여 새롭게 탄생한 거쉬윈의 〈파리의 미국인〉(An American in Paris) 이 작년 뉴욕 공연에 이어 시카고에서 첫 선을 보이며, 합창과 오케스트라의 거대한 스케일로 유명한 베토벤의 9번 교향곡 마지막 악장이 피아노 트리오와 팀파니, 바리톤의 편성으로 편곡되어 블루버드 전 아티스트의 합주로 피날레를 장식한다. 전통적인 명곡과 신선한 현대적 시도가 함께 어우러지는 프로그램은 청중에게 특별한 경험과 진한 감동을 선사할 것으로 기대된다.

블루버드 프로젝트는 2024년 시카고 데뷔 리사이틀 이후 빠르게 주목받으며 새로운 실내악 그룹으로 자리매김하고 있다. 2025년 카네기홀 데뷔공연 이후 미국 무대뿐 아니라 국제 무대로의 도약을 준비중이다. 블루버드는 “다양한 음악적 실험과 조합, 클래식 작품들의 현대적인 해석을 통해 단단한 청중의 기반을 다지고, 매 공연마다 음악의 힘과 위로를 선사하는 무대를 선보일 예정“이라며 많은 관심과 성원을 당부했다.
