문화회관 목요음악회 시리즈 ‘모짜르트 인더 모닝’ 8월 콘서트는 ‘해금과 가야금의 만남’으로 해금 이승희, 가야금 김현채, 타악 김덕환 연주가들의 멋진 무대가 펼쳐졌다. 한국의 대표적인 현악기인 해금과 가야금을 연주로 전통음악에서 현대음악까지 다양한 음악을 들을 수 있었다. 두 개의 명주 사이에 나무활을 끼고 연주하는 해금은 사람의 목소리를 닮아 떄론, 삶과 슬픔을 전달한다고 하며, 손가락으로 튕기는 12줄의 가야금은 맑고 깨끗한 소리로 마음을 달래준다. 관객들은 과거 양반에서 평민에 이르기까지 누구나 즐겨듣던 ‘아리랑’의 독특한 스타일을 경험했다.

The Korean Cultural Center of Chicago’s Thursday concert series ‘Mozart in the Morning’ presented a performance of Korea’s top two stringed instruments, haegeum and gayageum, of music in various eras from traditional to modern music at the KCCoC Gallery. Haegeum, played with a wooden bow between two silk strings, resembles human voice and is said to convey life and sorrow, while the twelve strings of gayageum, which are plucked with the fingers, soothe the mind with a clear and pure sound. The audience experienced this unique style of music, which have been enjoyed by the nobleman to commoners’ ‘Arrirang’ in the past.
