2021 KCCoC Composition Competition

2021 KCCoC COMPOSITION COMPETITION

The 2021 Korean Cultural Center of Chicago Composition Competition invites composers to submit Korean-themed choral compositions for SATB chorus. The competition is open to composers of all ages and nationalities. The awarded works will be performed by the KCCoC Choir at the Grand Opening Concert for the Bisco Hall in 2022.

Awards

The Winner : $1,000

Honorable Mentions : $250 for each composer

Regulations

-Each applicant must submit one choral composition for SATB choir based on Korean art/folk songs.

-The composition should make use of one of the following Korean art/folk songs as a main theme.

  • Ga-go-pah (Korean art song)
  • Dong-sim-cho (Korean art song)
  • Nal-jom-bo-so (Miryang Arirang – Korean folk song)
  • Han-o-baek-nyeon (Korean folk song)

-You may email music@kccoc.org if you have further questions about the Korean art/folk songs.

-The composition length must not exceed 7 minutes. You must indicate the length of the composition on the score.

-The composition may be accompanied by string/woodwind instruments and/or Korean traditional instruments in addition to the piano accompaniment. The maximum number of accompanying instruments should be six.

 

Submission Guidelines

-A deadline for submissions is May 1, 2021. The results will be announced on May 31, 2021.

-All scores must be sent by email in PDF format, to music@kccoc.org

-Please fill out an application form on our competition website page and pay an application fee. The application fee is $25 and non-refundable. These actions are expected to be complete at the time of submission of your composition.
